How Smart is Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff?

After 9/11, it became abundantly clear why both New York and Washington DC were hit by terrorists. It was obvious! They are the highest profile, attacks on both cities would receive the most coverage of any in the nation, and both are seen as representing the US government. And, of course, that has not changed. Or has it?

Starting more than 5 years ago, we started throwing money around this country to protect ourselves from this threat but found that much of it was wasted in places that really had no terrorism threat. So, when Michael Chertoff, the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, came on the scene, he said that we were going to be more practical and put the money where it was most needed. And has he followed through with his oh so practical promises?

Well, today Chertoff announced that antiterrorism funding for both New York and Washington DC has been cut by more than 40% in favor of those terror hot spots like Omaha and Louisville.

I can only imagine Osama bin Laden and Al Qaida working someplace in a cave in Afghanistan as they plan for their next attacks. "Oh know. The Americans found out about our master plan to attack . . . Omaha." Come on.

Pull it together Mikey!

I feel safer already!
