How Much Can a Co-Defendant Hurt Your Case - Court TV

Many things can hurt you in a criminal jury trial in Minnesota. Sometimes it is forensic evidence. Sometimes, it is statements that you yourself gave. One piece of evidence that should never be forgotten is that power of co-defendant testimony. The power of a co-defendant’s testimony to sink your case cannot be overestimated. This is especially true if the State can convince your co-defendant to flip on you. In other words, the impact of the co-defendant testifying against you in return for a plea deal from the State has the potential to be catastrophic.

Jack Rice appears on Court TV on 3/14/22 to discuss criminal law, criminal charges and the power of co-defendants in jury trials. Jack’s experience in this area comes from working in criminal courtrooms for decades.

If you are facing serious criminal charges in the Twin Cities or anywhere in Minnesota, contact an experienced criminal defense attorney. When Picking a Jury, Know What You are Looking For - Law & Crime Appearance

Standing in front of a jury is a really interesting and unusual exercise. For many years and dozens and dozens of trials, I used to think of it as an effort to find people who would find your client not guilty. Even more, I tried to limit to impact of others saying things I didn’t want to hear. I was wrong.

“When I’m picking a jury, I’m hunting.”

As I stand before a group of potential jurors now, I know what I’m looking for. I’m hunting. What is my theory, what is my theme? I then think about people who see the world in this similar way. This way, when I say something, people will viscerally agree.

Jack Rice appears on Law & Crime TV on 2/10/22 to discuss jury selection and why it matters so much. Jack is a nationally known criminal defense attorney, recipient of the Minnesota Attorney of the Year, the Award for Professional Excellence and is a Board Certified Criminal Law Specialist.

Do No Knock Search Warrants in Minnesota Create More Danger and More Death? A WCCO Appearance

If you talk to the police, they claim that No Knock Search Warrants are designed to secure evidence and to protect the police. However, with the never ending drumbeat about the 2nd Amendment and the right to protect yourself, if the police break down your door, doesn’t this just create the knee-jerk reaction where everybody just starts shooting? If you don’t know it is the police, don’t you have the right to defend yourself? Even worse, do they create the environment where people can become victims when it was never necessary. This is exactly the argument that Amir Locke’s family is arguing right now as the Minneapolis Police Department Swat Team used such a warrant, known down a door and shot and killed him the other night.

Jack Rice appears on WCCO Radio on February 6, 2022 with Jearlyn Steele to discuss search warrants, the Minneapolis Police, and another young man dead. It is a difficult conversation but one that couldn’t be more timely.

As a Parent, Can You Be Held Criminally Responsible for the Acts of Your Child? -Court TV Video

Watch Jack’s Appearance on Court TV

As a parent, can you be held criminal responsible for the acts of your child? The general rule is, no. However, that won't always stop prosecutors from trying to do so. In the Ethan Crumbley Oxford school shooting case from November 30, 3031, both of his parents were charged with manslaughter for failing to recognize the threat and stop it. They allegedly bought him a gun but is that enough?

Ethan is 15 but hasn’t stopped Michigan from charging him as an adult. He is facing 24 charges including one count of terrorism causing death, four counts of first degree murder, seven counts of assault with the intent to murder and twelve counts of possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony. What about the responsibility of the school to act? Now, there are also civil lawsuits. How does this impact the criminal charges? Ethan Crumbley has entered a not guilty plea to all counts. Nationally known Criminal Defense Attorney Jack Rice appears on Court TV on 1/12/22 to discuss.

Can you go to jail for the crimes your child commits?
