Both Uganda and Kenya are Commonwealth countries which means their judicial system is very similar to the U.S.. This is the case because all three of our systems were derived from the British system. This promises to be amazing. Jack Rice is Guest Speaker at Indigenous People’s Day Event
Excited to be a guest speaker alongside my co-counsel, the amazing Willow Anderson, as we discuss our defense of our client who was charged with pulling down the Christopher Columbus statue in front of the State Capitol in St Paul in 2020. This case was extraordinary in that it represented not just 400 years of injury to Native people but also current and ongoing harm to these communities. We were thrilled to help guide a groundbreaking restorative justice circle process that may become a blueprint for how these cases should be handled across the Country. In fact, we have provided guidance to other lawyers around the country dealing with similar prosecutions.

COVID has had a massive impact on the country and the world What some might not know is that it has also impacted the legal system here in the U.S. as well. In some ways, the courts have been kind of shut down in the last year and a half. That is slowly but surely changing and the Courts are opening up..
The criminal justice system is chugging along and trials are starting to take place. Along side those, Court TV is covering those trials, digging below the surface and taking its viewers behind the scenes.

A Year After George Floyd Murder, Jack Appears in Middle East TV to Discuss
It was one year ago that an event happened on a street in South Minneapolis. While something liked this has happened in this country for centuries, this one was different for one reason, a cell phone. George Floyd was murdered by Derek Chauvin on the corner of 38th and Chicago in South Minneapolis one year ago today. He wasn’t the first to die at the hands of the police in this country. The difference is that we all were able to watch it at its most brutal and it was harder to look away.
In this year, also the year of COVID, Minneapolis and St. Paul continue to struggle to transform. The “one bad apple” argument has raised its head again and again. It was just these four guys. It is convenient but it is false. It is bigger and broader than that.
I appear on Press TV in the Middle East today on the one year anniversary of George Floyd’s murder to discuss what has happened in the criminal justice system in this country as well as in our society as well. It promises to be a edgy but honest.

Can a Defendant Get a Fair Trial in This Environment? Jack Appears on WCCO to Discuss
Judge Cahill moved the criminal trials of the three remaining former police officers in the George Floyd case to March of 2022. At the same time, the Feds have charged several of those officers including Derek Chauvin with new charges. This will put pressure on these defendants to potentially find resolution in these cases. It also brings up the question of how much pressure there will be on the Attorney General’s office to go ahead with those prosecutions. We will see.
I appear on WCCO with John Hines to discuss the jury system, fairness and whether or not it is even possible in a case like this. Hope you can catch it.

Criminal Defense and Human Rights Lawyer Appears on Arabic TV to Talk Genocide.
With another blow to American/Turkish relations, President Biden acknowledged the 1915 Armenian Genocide. This has been in dispute between the two countries for many years. However, the U.S. has been moving toward this for some time. In 2019, there was a joint resolution by both Houses of Congress. In addition, even President Reagan talked about the “Armenian Genocide in context of the Holocaust. However, this was the first time the a sitting President took such a bold stand. It should be added, relations have continued to deteriorate between President Erdogan and multiple U.S. administrations.
Rule of Law only works if everybody buys into it. To ignore genocide only serves to encourage it.
As Minnesota based criminal defense attorney, Jack walks into courtrooms everyday to defend his clients’ rights. This is critical. At the same time, Rule of Law and an acknowledgment of pasty wrongs is equally critical if we are to have legal systems around the world that are seen as legitimate. This is the reason Jack trained at the International Criminal Court. This is why he has worked teaching trial advocacy in Russia, Republic of Georgia, South Sudan, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and on and on and on.
Jack appeasr on RT Arabic with an immediate translation throughout the Arabic world today to discuss the Human right impact that this decision could have. He is hopeful that an announcement will eventually lead to an acknowledgement.
