Jack Appears on Times of London Radio to Discuss Criminal Sentencings and the Chauvin Trial
Sentencings are one of the most important aspects of criminal defense representation. This is actually where the rubber meets the road. While this is obviously true if your lawyer is able to contest and negotiate settlement prior to sentencing, it is sometimes more true if you go to trial and are found guilty of any or all of the charges. Now let’s imagine having this happen in the highest profile criminal case in a generation - the Derek Chauvin murder trial.
Derek Chauvin was convicted of 2nd degree “felony” murder, 3rd degree murder and manslaughter. According to the sentencing guidelines, he is likely looking at 150 months to serve. The Attorney General’s office is seeking an upward departure. In fact they are look for 30 years to serve. This is based upon something in Minnesota called special circumstances.
While Jack has represented thousands of clients across the state of Minnesota, every case is important. Sometimes, it is about charges. Sometimes it is about time - jail or prison. Sometimes it is about conditions of probation or length of probation. The list goes on and on.
Jack will appear on Times of London Radio to discuss the trial, the sentencing and what to expect from both the defense and prosecution in this case here in Minnesota. Jack is the founder of Jack Rice Defense, is a former prosecutor and Board Certified Criminal Law Specialist and award winning criminal defense attorney. Minnesota Criminal Defense Attorney Does Local and National Media Coverage of George Floyd Trial
The Derek Chauvin trial (George Floyd) is ramping up here in Minneapolis and local and State official are already ramping up security with an expected 1100 police officers backed up by more than 2000 National Guard. There will certainly be protests but the concern is differentiating between the peaceful & violent. At the same time, consider protestor treatment here versus at the US Capitol. That is clearly also a concern. At the same time, imagine trying to pick a jury amidst the barricades and police and chants for justice. The Chauvin trial is scheduled to begin on March 8th. As a former prosecutor and criminal defense attorney, I’ll be doing a lot of media analysis locally and across the country. Buckle up. It’s going to get bumpy.
