Jack Rice is Keynote Speaker at Indigenous People’s Day Event

Excited to be a keynote speaker alongside my co-counsel, the amazing Willow Anderson, as we discuss our defense of our client, a member of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, who was charged with pulling down the Christopher Columbus statue in front of the State Capitol in St Paul in 2020. This case was extraordinary in that it represented not just 400 years of injury to Native people but also current and ongoing harm to these communities. We were thrilled to help guide a groundbreaking restorative justice circle process that may become a blueprint for how these cases should be handled across the Country. In fact, we have provided guidance to other lawyers around the country dealing with similar prosecutions. As importantly, we aren’t done yet.
