Criminal Defense Attorney Jack Rice hosted a legal program on AM 950 in Minneapolis looking at race, history and the current day in the criminal justice system. It was an amazing opportunity to sit down with Jerry Blackwell, one of the lead prosecutors in the Derek Chain murder case. Looking at race and history, we talked about three black men who were lynched and the posthumous garden he received for a black man falsely accused of rape more than 100 years ago in Duluth. This is the first pardon of its kind in the state’s history. At the same time, we discussed the line that runs directly through that case all the way into the case involving the death of George Floyd. This conversation is about history and where we stand in the criminal justice system today.
