Jack Rice talks with the Wall Street Journal about the Key Evidence in the Chauvin Trial

Read the Wall Street Journal article. So what exactly is going to be the biggest evidence in the Chauvin murder trial and how will it come out. Simply put, beyond the obvious 8 minute 46 second video, it is going to be the Medical Examiner's Report by Dr. Andrew Baker, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner. As you dig into the evidence, there are some really interesting conclusions made and then reiterated to two FBI agents as well as an Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Agent. He was extremely specific about what he could say and what he could not say. As he put it directly to the FBI:

“Baker could not provide an answer if “but for” the actions of the officers would Floyd have lived. Baker could not have predicted what would have occurred. Baker did not know if Floyd would have lived but for the Officer’s actions.”

While a 8 minute 46 second video tape will certainly take center stage, the Defense will do their very best to highlight the causation question and wrap the Medical Examiner’s conclusions around it. I sat down for a long conversation with the Wall Street Journal to discuss this and other issues that are likely going to be the focus of the Derek Chauvin murder trial.
