Justin Timberlake Arrested on DWI Charge in Hamptons: "I Had One Martini"
Pop superstar Justin Timberlake was taken into custody early Tuesday in the upscale Hamptons area of Long Island, New York. The 43-year-old Franklin, Tennessee resident was arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated and refusing to undergo a DWI test. If you are facing serious DWI charges in Minnesota, make sure you consult with an experienced Minnesota criminal defense attorney.
“Refusing to take a test, as Timberlake allegedly did, it a crime and he could face more serious charges than the underlying DWI charge if this were Minnesota.”
The incident occurred on June 18, 2024. Timberlake was reportedly driving a gray, Florida-registered BMW when he was stopped by police near Madison Street and Middle Line Highway at approximately 12:18 a.m. The initial stop was due to Timberlake driving through a stop sign and failing to stay on the right side of the road, as noted in the criminal complaint.
Once officers approached Timberlake, they observed signs of intoxication: bloodshot and glassy eyes, a strong odor of alcohol, slowed speech, and an inability to perform field sobriety tests effectively. Officer Michael Arkinson's report noted Timberlake’s poor performance on these tests and his unsteady balance.
Timberlake allegedly told officers, "I had one martini and I followed my friends home," and refused the chemical test, stating, "No, I'm not doing a chemical test." Legal experts warn that such refusals can be used as evidence of guilt and could lead to the revocation of driving privileges.
After his arrest, Timberlake was arraigned and released without bail nine hours later. He has pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to appear in court on July 26.
“One of his mistakes was talking with the police. They will use his words against him.”
